Jr Youth Advisory Council
The Junior Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is a pilot program comprised of middle school students in 7th and 8th grade that represent all nine school districts in Oswego County, including private schools, and home schools.
Jr YAC will work closely with the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau to develop programs that will benefit its members and the community. Once a student moves on to high school, they will transition right into YAC.
The council meets every other week from October to May to address issues that influence the county. We will be using Microsoft Teams or Zoom to do our meetings. Meetings will be held after school hours and we may occassionally meet on the weekend.
Goals for this council are similar to those of the Youth Advisory Council. We want to provide a safe space where students from across the county can discuss issues that they are facing, to get them active in their community and to get their input on programming for youth in Oswego County.
Why should you join Jr YAC?
- Make friends from other schools
- Be a voice for you and your peers
- Learn how to plan events
- Give back to your community
- Gain confidence and self-esteem
- Earn community service hours
- Have fun
