Camp Rainbow of Hope
Camp Rainbow of Hope is a residential camp experience held at Camp Hollis for Oswego County children ages 8-12 who have experienced a loss of a loved one. Camp Rainbow of Hope is a place where children can acknowledge their loss of a loved one, develop coping skills, accept the stages of grief, develop an awareness that they are not alone, and celebrate their lives and the lives of those they have lost. Camp Rainbow of Hope is fully funded by the Friends of Oswego County Hospice.
Campers are teamed up with a teen “Big Buddy” that will be with the camper throughout the program to help process their experience. In addition to big buddies, the camp also has adult personnel are comfortable with issues of death and dying and are trained on bereavement issues. These adult personnel are on site and include registered nurses, licensed social workers, mental health counselors, teachers, and camping professionals that lead the program.
Campers, big buddies, and adult personnel utilize both interactive and recreational activities to assist campers through their grief. Interactive activities include storytelling, healing circles, and recreational activities include hiking, swimming, campfires and arts & crafts. These activities along with a memorial service assist the camper in reflecting and sharing memories of their loved one that they are grieving.

A Message From the Senior Camping Committee:
There will be no Senior Camping Retreat at Camp Hollis in 2020. This time reminds us of how important it is for each of us to reach out to those we love via phone, email or other forms of communication. Senior Camping will rise again! (We already have 27 years of history!) Take care to stay safe and well.
Hope to see you all next year!
Very Sincerely,The Camp Hollis Senior Camping Committee
